The return of Boogie-Woogie competition in Canada — 2027
After a journey marked by the pandemic, BWSC is actively preparing the return of Boogie-Woogie competition in Canada. The forced break from 2020 to 2022 slowed competitive momentum, but the passion has remained intact.
The year 2026 is dedicated to preparation: judge training, regulations update, and community building. The first qualifiers will resume in 2027 with a renewed and ambitious structure.
Forced competition break due to the pandemic
Gradual return of activities and social events
Preparation year — Judge training and regulations update
Return of qualifiers and official competition
In 2026, BWSC is focusing on training and accrediting its judges to ensure a quality competitive return in 2027.
Complete review of regulations to adapt to the evolution of dance and international standards.
Training and calibration sessions to guarantee fair and consistent evaluations during competitions.
Judge accreditation process ahead of the first qualifiers of the 2027 season.
Two competition formats will return in 2027, each showcasing different aspects of Boogie-Woogie.

The format consists of finals: each couple takes turns performing once in slow boogie and once in fast boogie.

Songs will vary between tempos ranging from 30 to 49 BPM. They will not necessarily be drawn from the official song list.
Two levels to suit each dancer's journey.
Category for dancers developing their competitive skills.
The most advanced category for experienced dancers.
In the interest of fairness for all competitors, BWSC organizes three qualifiers to determine the category in which Strictly couples and individual dancers will compete.
Currently, BWSC has two categories: Aspirant and Main Class, the latter being the most advanced.
Competitors earn points based on their ranking. After the three qualifiers, BWSC will average the points earned and announce which couples in Strictly and which dancers in Mix'n Match will compete in which category.
Dancers may choose to enter one, two, or all three qualifiers. We obviously encourage all dancers to actively participate in multiple qualifiers.
Boogie-Woogie regulations have been developed to best adapt to the evolution of the dance and target appropriate judging criteria.
They were designed taking into consideration multiple feedback received as well as international regulations.
They are also designed to best support judges in all aspects to provide total transparency and equity.
Only approved music may be used in official competitions. The list is prepared by BWSC.
During a round, the same styles of music are used for fairness among competitors.
Competition organizers must contact BWSC to obtain the audio files for the songs.
